Duties of the Treasurer
- Collects all revenues for the county.
- Serves as the investment officer for the county.
- Disburses collections to the proper political subdivisions.
- Bills and collects all real estate and personal taxes in the county.
- Collects and distributes special assessments.
- Advertises and holds public, private, and county tax sales including the Delinquent Tax Sale on the 1st Monday in March.
- Issues motor vehicle titles.
- Issues motor vehicle registrations and assesses the vehicle valuation.
- Issues boat registrations.
- Issues snowmobile registrations.
- Issues grain hauling permits.
When are taxes due and delinquent?
- Taxes for both real estate and personal property are due – Dec. 31st. 14% statutory interest rate is charged on delinquencies
- 1st half is delinquent on – May 1st
- 2nd half is delinquent on – September 1st
- On the due date, the taxes become a first lien on all personal property you own. If the taxes are not paid, any personal property you own, whether taxable or not, is subject to seizure in order to satisfy the lien.
